About Us

Retreat Travel is run by John Richmond. He lives with his wife Vee and their dog, in a small village in the Scottish Borders, and founded Retreat Travel in 2006 to provide all-inclusive meditation retreat holidays to Nepal. He first visited Nepal several years ago as a participant on a charity trek, and fell in love with the country and it’s people. After completing outdoor medic training with Expedition Medicine, he managed to get a job as a guide/medic with that first trekking company, Across the Divide, and has returned to Nepal on a numerous occasions.

He combined his love of the Himalayas with his interest in meditation, to come up with the idea of taking people, who perhaps had little enthusiasm for outdoor activity, to enjoy a different aspect of Nepal. Retreat Travel meditation holidays give people the opportunity to experience a meditation retreat holiday at a retreat centre in beautiful surroundings in the foothills of the Himalayas, close to Annapurna.

That original idea has since been expanded to include a broad range of adventure activity holidays to the Himalayas - Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan, and also to Costa Rica: rafting, kayaking, trekking, mountaineering and mountain biking.
